adelphi selection lock katrine distillery oldest whisky 200 years old april fools

There is some great creativity out there from drinks brands when it comes to April Fool’s Day and 2026 did not disappoint, starting with the oldest whisky ever bottled by Adelphi Selection.

According to them “our Adelphi roots stretch across a yawning chasm of time spanning two centuries. Long before Ardnamurchan Distillery was born, The Loch Katrine Adelphi Distillery was built in 1826 by the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow, spawning a history that still lives on today. All whisky from that era was thought to be long ago consigned to the dustbin of history, until now!
We have unearthed an astonishing piece of history, a bygone dram from the original Adelphi Distillery which has slumbered undisturbed in a single refill cask for 200 years!”
“With an oh-so-convenient ABV of 40.1%, we can still class this as Scotch whisky. The rare few team members who have been able to taste it couldn’t even write tasting notes. They were rendered speechless, entirely mute, unable to comprehend the riches which unfolded from their dram glasses. There are only 13 bottles left of this absolute unicorn. The price is, we think, a pretty reasonable £1826 per bottle.
Own your piece of distilling history now!”

Filey Bay BEach Edition The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery april fools

The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has been working closely with Muntons Malt, and they have discovered that there are key similarities between the nitrogen levels of grains sand found on the Yorkshire coast, and grains of barley farmed on the Yorkshire Wolds. Following an in-depth RND project, they’ve found a way to malt and extract the sugars from the sand so that it can be malted, mashed and fermented to make both beer and whisky.
Their first release is now ready: Filey Bay, Beach Edition.
Sharp and coastal with notes of citrus, salted caramel and a crunch on the finish.
A truly circular whisky, they load small batches of sand from Filey Bay after spring tides, malt it at Muntons on the cliffs, and receive it back
