The history of Italian Whisky production started back in 2015 with Puni, the first Italian malt whisky. Since then, the number of distilleries has grown in number with over 10 in production as recently as 2023, although only two of these were started specifically for the production of whisky: Puni and Strada Ferrata. The others are grappa or acquavite distilleries that have expanded their offering of spirits.
Below is the second version of the Italian Whisky Map created by Whisky Club Italia. Note that they have also included distilleries that have bottled a sourced whisky, purchasing the spirit from third parties (potentially from abroad, given the lack of a specification), perhaps carrying out a finishing in-house.
