This is a hybrid role, you need to be based in the UK and will be expected to be in the London office ~1 day a week, the rest you’ll be out in the trade across the UK.


Expertise and Education:

  • Immerse yourself in Mangrove’s whisky brands and their categories, becoming an authority in the whisky industry.
  • Distil your knowledge into easy-to-understand insights for various communication methods.
  • Organise and lead consumer tastings, seminars, and workshops to engage whisky enthusiasts of all kinds.
  • Educate on- and off-trade staff about whisky, sharing your passion and expertise with customers at all levels.
  • Stay updated on the UK and global whisky market trends, including brand activities, unique selling points (USPs), and category news.

Training and Promotion:

  • Craft and deliver informative training sessions that bring our brands to life & effectively communicate their core values and USPs
  • Visit bars, restaurants, hotels, and shops to promote our whisky brands, and enable the staff at each to become mini-ambassadors in turn.
  • Work with the retail team to simultaneously organise and conduct barrel top tastings featuring multiple brands. Coordinate engaging consumer programs, hosting fun, educational, and interesting events.
  • Is equally at home speaking with traditional whisky-drinkers and those new to the spirit, and with people from diverse backgrounds.

Event Coordination and Execution:

  • Participate in trade and consumer shows, contributing to organizing, reporting, and evaluating these events.
  • Ensure all activities and events uphold Mangrove’s image, and that they strengthen our whisky brands’ equity and values.
  • Lead the execution of bar/restaurant takeovers/pairing dinners and other creative experiential events.
  • Relationship Building:
  • Cultivate strong relationships with the Mangrove Sales team, as well as bar, restaurant, hotel, and retail staff, managers, and owners.
  • Work with the sales team to find/create ‘super-fans’ of our whisky brands and establish lighthouse accounts
  • Connect with key influencers in the whisky market, including journalists, ambassadors from other whisky companies, and online influencers.
  • Serve as a “product evangelist” for retail staff, ensuring our whisky portfolio is exciting and engaging for both staff and consumers.

Key Skills

Language and Communication:

  • Extremely fluent in written and spoken English. Other languages are a bonus.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and excite audiences ranging from small groups to large gatherings.
  • Social media skills, including proficiency with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.

Whisky Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Knowledgeable about whisky, including production, history, brands, industry trends and flavour profiles.
  • You don’t need to be at the expert level yet, but you need to be willing to become one!
  • Experience mixing drinks and creating inspiring serve ideas for a variety of tastes.
  • A great palate and the ability to explain tasting notes in an engaging and entertaining manner
  • A love of flavour and a keenness to learn how to complement/contrast whisky with various foods
  • Secondary knowledge about other aged/sipping spirits and liqueurs a bonus.

Time Management and Organisational Skills:

  • Strong organisational skills with an outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a wide variety of locations.
  • Effective time management and prioritising skills, focusing on calendar/diary management.
  • Able to work at weekends (around 20 during the year) and regular evenings as events require while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
  • Adaptable interpersonal style to suit different people or situations.
  • Identifies business opportunities for the organisation.
  • Demonstrates financial awareness and controls costs effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous spirits Brand Ambassador experience, or worked in the hospitality industry for at least 3 years. Demonstrated a keenness for whisky and good professional development during that time.
  • WSET Qualification in Spirits – L2 desirable, but we will send you on the course if you don’t already have it
  • Good IT/PC skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, cloud computing, and various social media platforms is essential
  • Driving license is not essential, but helpful!
  • Applicants must be legally permitted to live and work in the UK.
