I have continued to review Single Malt Price Inflation by tracking pricing available in the public domain (using Amazon UK data) at 6 month intervals of a selected number of Scotch whisky brands – these were my previous posts:
- 6 months ago (January 2025)
- 12 months ago (July 2024)
- 18 months ago (December 2023)
The main output is that price increases have significantly decelerated for the Single Malt Scotch whisky brands sampled on the Entry Level (10 to 12 years old) as the brands checked have increased on average by only 0.1% vs. 6 months ago. This compares favourably against the increase seen 6 months ago in January ’25 (+3.4%) and 12 months ago in July ’24 (+6.2%) vs. the previous respective 6 months period.
However on the Premium set (18 years old or higher), we seem to have started to experience price inflation again with the brands checked having increased on average by 3.1% vs. 6 months ago, compared to the decrease of 2.2% 6 months ago in January ’25 and previously, an increase by 3.5% 12 months ago as of July ’24. Note that this could also be a seasonal variation linked to their promotional strategy. As an example from the Premium set, Balblair 18yo at £142 has reached its highest pricing available (graph above).
The price variation for Premium Single Malts (18yo-21yo) varies greatly by brand as per the table below. The combined pricing of the brands selected has increased by 3.1% from £112.42 in January 2025 to £115.86 in July 2025.
The lowest priced brand within the data set is Jura 18yo at £74.90 (graph below) and the highest is Talisker 18yo at £182.45.
Deanston 18yo (graph below) is currently at £84.95 however it reached its highest recorded pricing at £90.75 over the last few months since January ’25.
The price variation for Entry Level Single Malts (10yo-12yo) varies by brand from £28 to £62.99 as per the table below. The combined pricing of the brands selected has increased by only 0.1% from £40.49 in January 2025 to £40.54 in July 2025.
This also incorporates the impact of the UK duty increase by 3.6% from £31.64 to £32.79 for Spirits from 1st February 2025 (note: £32.79 per litre of alcohol in the product for duty on all alcoholic products exceeding 22% alcohol by volume – for more info click here).
For a 70cl bottle containing Scotch whisky at 40% abv, the increase in duty represented an incremental 32 pence on the price to the consumer.
For reference = (duty x bottle size) x ABV = (32.79 x 0.7) x 0.40 = £9.18 duty
Glenmorangie 12yo (graph below) is currently at £29 and very close to its lowest recorded pricing for the time period available, and the graph reflects its promotional strategy.
Every company will have a different price and promotional strategy for their brands, which may also differ depending on format (bottle size), channel and country. This data set is merely a snapshot of the Single Malt Pricing in the UK using Amazon data available in the public domain.
