Infinite Possibilities on the Liuyang River – a guest blog post by Nené Hu(LinZi Whisky)
On the banks of the Liuyang River, a bold new whisky project is taking shape: the Infinite Distillery by the Goalong Liquor Group. As the younger of Liuyang’s whisky twin stars, this innovative site represents a fresh spirit in China’s whisky landscape, bringing together production, experience, and discovery.

Infinite Distillery offers whisky lovers a hands-on experience, inviting you to dive deep into the whisky-making journey, from ingredient selection through fermentation, distillation, and aging. Each bottle here carries a unique, personal touch. And thanks to the river’s specific climate, every cask develops a distinct character, creating a truly one-of-a-kind flavour profile.
The distillery’s design draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese Tulou architecture, featuring two circular buildings that, from an aerial view, form a Mobius strip—symbolizing the “infinite cycle” of whiskey distillation. Its logo, crafted from dismantled oak barrels, reflects this concept and also pays homage to Liuyang’s rich fireworks heritage, known as the “Fireworks Capital of the World.”

One of Infinite’s standout achievements is its complete reliance on Chinese-sourced materials and equipment. Using Qingke barley, local yeast, and Chinese-made oak casks and brewing machinery, Infinite Distillery exemplifies a new chapter in the “made-in-China” whisky story.
This endeavor is a powerful symbol of Hunan’s determination and ingenuity. In fact, Goalong is the first company in China to operate two whisky distilleries, and Infinite Distillery is fully localized – from the ingredients to the equipment.
Although whisky is often seen as a foreign tradition, distillation’s origins actually trace back to China. Infinite Distillery brings this story full circle, connecting past and present with a unique architectural design inspired by the infinity symbol. It’s a reminder of the endless cycles in distillation and aging, blending tradition with forward-thinking craftsmanship.
In a time when the global whisky market is facing challenges, Infinite Distillery’s spirit brings a surge of optimism, proving that innovation is alive and well in China. This isn’t just whisky – it’s a meaningful movement.
