Here is some interesting data available from different sources in aviation and travel retail, such as ACI, UNWTO and ETRC.
Firstly, the Airports Council International (ACI), the ‘voice of the world’s airports”, has released their latest data relating to airports though their annual report: the Airport Economics Report 2017. This comes at a price for those interested however the topline information below on non-aeronautical revenue and 2016-2040 forecast data is a positive insight that also highlights the disproportionate importance of the Asia-Pacific region.
Next we can also view data from the World Tourism Organisation UNWTO – they have released a report about EU Short Term Tourism Trends 2017-2021. Topline trends for Tourism in the World in 2016 below:

Finally, at the recent ETRC Business Forum 2018, there was some positive news for the travel retail industry in Europe with a positive rebound for traffic of passengers in the region compared to 2016 (graphic below).
The category to show the largest growth year on year (yoy) was Liquor with a positive +6.1% compared to +4.0% on average across all categories.
Unfortunately, Spend per Passenger (PAX) continues to trend down and substantially lower than in previous years. This partially explain the reason why despite the increase in traffic, the sales increase is tracking behind it.
